Day 9; Jordan

Bryan; Well, inside of Persepolis the laws are very simple. They want all of the iranians to conform to the laws of the country. They want them to wear veils. They want them to wear those because they say that womens hair can been seen as a sex symbol of some sort (p.5). Also, all of the citizens are being forced under a dictatorship. They see innocent people die everyday on the streets of Iran. Its amazing because outside of Iran, especially in America, its rare to find anybody under a dictatorship. In america we are not made to wear or do anyhting we dont want to, for the most part. I believe there are many girls like Marjane, searching for understanding at a young age, in every culture and country. Marjane Satrapi is a unique girl, she doesnt follow what other people tell her to do. She goes out and fights for what she believes in, says what she thinks and finds out information on her own. She is ambitous and that light clearly shines through on every page. Sometimes i forget that she was only ten because of the things she does and says. Like she she is very interested in her surrounding news, she even quoted something said on the news ("on tv they said that 99.9% of the population voted for Islamic Republic") Which made her dad tense up. (p.63) I do think that coming from different places and cultures our perceptions of right, wrong, good and bad change. Like i dont see anything wrong with working at micky d's or krogers but people who are from different places do. I feel like a honest paying job is better than on the street selling illegal substanes to only lead to a life of prson or death. Everyone doesnt think like me unfortunately :)
Robert; In persepolis, your right they were "rebels". In my book they started off as firm believers in freedom and doing what they wanted, not conforming to the laws of the country. But as time went on and life got harsher they began to fall off and give in to what the government wanted. The thing is, in my eyes they started to get what they had lost back, courage. Marjane on the other hand never lost it. SHe was always a firm believer in fighting til you get it right. She was the main one who wanted to go to war and bomb Iraq back when they attacked them. Eventually her father came back around and started to want the same things. I think they lost sight and faith for a minute.
