Giving up?

In Perseopolis the laws were changing society around them. Schools became forcefully sexual segregated, women had to wear veils or be looked down upon, and public display of ANY romannce was restricted. The culture in the book comes out in subtle hints like the mention of playing board games, watching TV, humor, ect. This isn't always shown outside in the media or even in books. We get to see how similar they are but also see how different they are. In other areas besides Iran things are different. Other places don't have to worry about not choosing a certain religion, standing up for what they believe in without really putting themselves in harms way, or being afraid of being around people with higher regarded social status. The same culture that exists in Iran isnt always present everyonewhere else, because of the crazyness of everyday and the difference in opinoins change drastically depending on the person. Marjane mostly shapes her ethics on her parents, friends, and visualization of God. In the sheep chapter on pg62
Marjane also takes the information that she gets on the news and when she is told that she is wrong by her father she runs off crying. All of her outlets she always listens to their stories and is able to come up with her own view based off that. Since the idea of right and wrong or good and bad can be relative based on experience perception is what chooses what we feel is right and wrong. For the most part "right and wrong" is set up by the laws we have in place in government, that is what we are usually exposed to from birth so we shape our views based upon that. Many who are taught different by other sources can change a persons persective. Religion plays another huge role in deciding a code of ethics and dpending on government leader can have an effect on laws too. As in the Case of abortion that conflicts with choice of mother and what it means to be human rights. Many christians are against it but alot of people who have experienced the choice or even been affected by it can have conflicting opinoins. Right and wrong are seen differently by different people and are seen in so much of out every day life whether it be death penalty, abortion, domestic violence, ect. In my case videogames and internet have had a major impact on how I view things. Being connected and exposed to many different views from the low level to extremists have shown me that everyone has their own mind and its all based on experience and upbringing. I know for a fact that some people are affacted by Mature videogames to go out and acutally commit crimes based on what they see in games, but In my case they have never done that for me but their upbringing might have changed how things appear to them.

From the begining of the book Perseoplis, Marjane and her family were very into the idea of fighting for what they believe in. They had strong morals and wanted to protect their way of life no matter what. As the book progressed many of their friends and family were arrested, forced to move, or even killed. On pg 76 Marjane goes to help the cause after her uncle Anoosh dies and for the first time she witnessed the violence in person that she had always seen on TV. This scared her and made her a little less ready and excited to jump into the fray. Not only this but after her friend moved whom she liked very much she got less interested in what was going on around her but more into the idea of looking to move to America. its more about living than it is about morals now. They are starting to see the harsh realities of life and its swaying their minds about changing their government. I don't believe they are giving up but putting their lives as a top priortiy.
