Bryan: The story of Our America happened in real life. In the projects of Ida B Wells in the south side of Chicago many people live in an almost lawless area where people sell drugs, gang bang, & murder others and they're either dead or in jail. For example,Le Alan's cousin's friend Little Cecil sold drugs and ended up being murder to the guy he sold it to, he just came out of jail. A boy named George skips class to sell drugs and he expects to be killed before ten years. Even ten year old Johnny and eleven year old Tyrone who dropped five year old Eric out the window killing him ended up ended up in prison. Living in a dangerous neighborhood, many people do illegal things which make those who live in the ghetto of south side see it as normal. They expect to be dead or in jail so its nothing to them. Violence and murder is almost culture to them and where they live with only a few exceptions like Le Alan and Lloyd who refuse to take part in selling drugs or joining gangs, etc.
Robert: Le Alan and Lloyd from Our America didn't believe in selling drugs or expect to be short lived because of all the people who where being killed in their neighborhood by drug abuse or gunshots. Since the beginning they set the goal for others to learn about their America, living in Ida B Wells which they compared to Vietnam, a battle zone. As time passed and the story went on, recording story from story about the people and incidents that happen in their hood, they still believed that they would survive and be able to let America know about the violence and poverty in their own home. Everyday people were being killed but they still knew they would live so they could make their goal come true.
