In persepolis MarJane doesnt really run into strange characters but runs into different family members with different stories to tell her. For example her grandmother and uncle. Her grandmother tells her stories about when she as a child and what she faced. Her uncle motivates her but he is quite strsnge. He tells her every detail to his stories not matter what her age is. Both her uncle and grandma tell her the dramatic tragedy an horror they went through or had seen. I think to let her know how far along the have come to be successful.

No one in Persepolis has a sickness physically but mentally they are sick of the diasters they are facing due to war. Their country is being bombed and robbed and the community is wanting to give up on it all and turn away. When my grandmother had breast cancer my family and I stood next to her stongly. We supported mentally and physically. We supported every thing she did and every decision she made. Eventually she passed. I was extremly sad but proud that i supported her each step she took.
