In my book "Persepolis" the main character Marjane is an outsider. She is a young child during the time of the a revolution in Iran. She wants to be included in the activities caused by the war. Even in school, at the age of ten she was seperated from her friends because of the "cultural revolution".(p.4) She was made to wear a veil which was something she was not accustomed to (p.1) To me the most evident thing that she was more so an outsider was that at the age of six, she felt that she was called to be a prophet. (p.6) Nobody believed in her. She felt ashamed so she didnt tell her parents what she wanted to be when they asked. So when god tried to give her information that she could use towards becoming a prophet she gave him the cold shoulder to focus on the revolution (p.14) She wanted to participate in the riots and of course her parents would't let her. Also she wanted to know about her grandfather and grandmother wouldn't tell her, so i believe that also contributed to her being an outsider. She never knew the full stories. She only knew what she heard and saw, and even then she didn't truly know.
