Mark: It's not very weird but the characters in Our America lived in an area where many people close to them were taken away due to violence, drugs, and life on the the streets. It's slightly strange to me because no one close to me has ever been taken away by drugs or murder. When my grandmother was once rushed to the hospital it became an out of the box experience. I did not know what happened to her where she need emergency medical care but my whole family was worried over what may happen. I've never seen my family worry over something so much and while it was understandable and I never thought of something life threatening happen to my grandmother at the time. I was too young to understand so it seemed strange.
Arie: In Our America the characters LeAlan and Lloyd dealt with the violence in their neighborhood by talking about the events that happen in their neighborhood on the south side of Chicago. Growing up in the project housing of Ida B Wells, both of them would try to find way to temporarily get away from the violence by hanging out at the lakefront or school or even riding the bus. Implicit violence is more like implying that violence takes place, for example, Ida B Wells is a violent place. Explicit violence has more depth or detail. An example of explicit violence, Ida B Wells is a violent place due to many people getting murdered by shootings or over drugs.
Most of the violence I see happens to be in the media such as television or video games, so at the most the only violence i've seen in real life are fights. Seperating violence in the media from real life is as simple as knowing whats acceptable in video games may not be as acceptable in real life.
